Instructions Some blood work requires special instructions:
- Fasting:
- Needed to accurately check blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
- Your child should have nothing to eat or drink (except water and his/her medication) after midnight.
- Medication/Drug Level:
- Needed for medications such as Lithium and Depakote.
- Do not give the morning dose of that medication until after his/her blood is drawn.
If you're not sure what is required, ask your doctor before getting the blood drawn.
