Elementary-Aged Therapeutic Social Skills Group
Dawn Hartnett

Following Dan LeGoff's Lego club, these groups are designed to encourage communication and problems solving skills. One child acts as the "engineer" and describes the instructions, another as the "supplier" finding the correct pieces and the "builder" puts the pieces together. The children change roles weekly allowing them to practice compromise, and understand frustration. Children start by building quick and easy lego kits and work towards harder larger kits.

Preschool is the perfect time to intervene intensively for children with social skill difficulties. With a limit of 6 children per group, this group will focus on teaching social skill basics such as eye contact, following directions, associative play, answering questions, and making associations.
