About Mental Health Benefits

Most medical insurance plans work with a separate company that manages Behavioral Health / Mental Health benefits.

If you have any of the following insurances: 

Your Behavioral Health benefits are probably managed by United Behavioral Health

If you are not sure, try checking the back of your Medical Insurance card and look for information about behavioral/mental health benefits.

Using Insurance at Pediatric Behavioral Health

You may be surprised to know that most of our patients do not use their insurance with us. Why? See Frequent Questions.

If you will be using your insurance, the following providers are covered by United Behavioral Health:

• Regina Kuersten-Hogan, PhD
• John Lutz, PhD

The following providers are not covered by insurance:

• Brian Dessureau, PhD**
• Richard Keelan, MS
• Tessa Hayes, LICSW

**Please Note: Many of our providers work in multiple locations (e.g. here and UMass). Insurance may list one of our providers as being covered (i.e. “in-network”) but please be sure to find out if that provider is covered at Pediatric Behavioral Health. This issue frequently causes confusion about insurance coverage for Dr. Fisher and Dr. Dessureau who also provide specialized care at the University of Massachusetts. Although several insurance companies may list Dr. Fisher or Dr. Dessureau as being “in network” for UMass, they will not accept claims filed for services here.

If your insurance does not use United Behavioral Health or the provider you are working with is not covered, please contact us to see if your plan will allow for out-of-network benefits (this means you go to a non-network provider and the insurance company reimburses you for a portion of what you pay).  This benefit varies with each plan: some allow for it, some do not.
